This is a team that lost at home to William and Mary. This is a team that the last two years has been simply praying right now they would make it to the big dance. This is a team that two weeks ago got Zoubeked @ Duke. But last night, following one ridiculous no way it goes in for anyone but Greivis Vasquez shot the Maryland Terps have a shot at winning the ACC regular season championship.
Being a ridiculous Maryland fan I have come to appreciate the uniqueness that is Maryland basketball and this team is the perfect example of a Maryland team. This is not a team filled with McDonald’s All Americans. Maryland doesn’t get those players. This is not a team of one and done freshman, Maryland rarely gets those either. This is a team that reflects its coach, it is a team full of smart, hard working, maybe not quite as talented, love to be the underdog, highly efficient, ballers, just like Gary Williams draws it up.

Being in the ACC we know that we are almost always playing for third at best to Duke and Carolina. But every couple of years there is a chance for a team that plays hard enough and with enough grit to break through and make a statement. It has been 8 years since a Maryland team did that, when we won the national championship. This was the year for a breakthrough and it is awesome to watch. This team won’t win a national title. A trip to the Sweet 16, however, is a realistic goal and would be a great success.
So here’s to a great day to be a Terp and a big shout out of love to Vasquez, Milbourne and Hayes who for four years have epitomized the ups and downs of being a Maryland fan. I am doing a little shimmy shake dance right now in your honor.

Fantastic win!! Grats to the Terps!! I am growing a bit concerned, though. While all sports fans, somewhere deep down, believe that they personally influence their teams for the negative by simply watching, rooting, or, sadly, hoping, why is it that my teams have phenomenal years after I leave the country? Vikes? Great year – ignore last game. But the real shocker? UNM is ranked #10 in the nation. Maybe I should speak to the embassy about inviting Cubs fans to Spain.
