Happy President’s Day! Nobody wishes each other happy President’s Day. I think we should each celebrate our own favorite presidents on this day.
My Secret Favorite President
Today I celebrate President Chester A. Arthur. Chester Alan Arthur was the 21st President. He became president after James Garfield was assasinated. He was rather unknown entering theĀ office as president and untrusted. His adminstration was not long lived, but fairly effective. He was a champion for civil service reform and showed himself an adept politician. When he left office he was well respected. Mark Twain is quoted as saying “It would be hard indeed to better President Arthur’s administration.”
The Dance of the JabbaWockeeZ

Baseball has more sense of history and pageantry. Football is far more brutal. Hockey is fast, entertaining, but not quite entrenched enough in the American psyche. If you want pure entertainment there is nothing like basketball, especially at the NBA All-Star Game. The entertainment was almost over the top this weekend, but between Dwight Howard dunking on a 12 foot rim, Nate Robinson (who is 5’9″) dunking over the 7 foot Howard or Shaq dancing with the JabbaWockeeZ, the entire spectacle was pure entertainment.
At the midway point of the season, here are my NBA Awards.
1st Team All Pro – Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Tim Duncan, Dwight Howard
MVP – Lebron James
Best Offseason Aquisition – Mo Williams, Cleveland
Worst Team I have ever rooted for – 2009 Washington Wizards
About to get fired list – John Paxson, Mike Dunleavy, Steve Kerr
The best dunks of the season so far
Check out my new church website
After months of working on the design and doing all of the writing for our church website it is finally up. I am pretty pleased with it, especially compared to the one we had before.
I will be multi-blogging now. Well, I will be increasingly multi-blogging now, with a pastor’s blog over at the church site. I will offer reflections on worship, scripture and prayers there each week. You are welcome to come by and check it out.
Big shout out to my friend Chris, who is part of our church, for handling the technical work, the instillation, the hosting, and for handling our podcast. If you need web work done, visit Chris’ company here.
The Tide is Coming In
Right now for all of my Methodist friends it is the time of year for secret meetings, murmurs, rumors, transitions and sighs of relief. Even for some of my friends outside of the Methodist system I have heard of several people whose lives are in a bit of flux based on other people’s decisions.
So for all of you who are in the midst of transition, fearing transition, or being left in the wake of others changing lives, let me just offer you this encouragement. God is faithful.
God is faithful when Bishops make decisions. God is faithful when sin causes our life to change. God is faithful when we have to betray what we love in order to be faithful to it. God is faithful when stuff just happens to us. God is faithful when we do stuff to other people. God is faithful when homes won’t sell. God is faithful when you leave those you love. God if faithful when life is beautiful. God is faithful when life is terrifying. God is faithful.
All of those instances are just from my life. I am sure you can add plenty more God is faithful descriptors if you want. But just remember, God is faithful. Have a great week.

They are a bit freaky. The white masks make them cool as terrifying at the same time.
Thanks, I have already had to fix about seven things today but it is running pretty smooth.
