I uploaded my sermon from this past Sunday, my installation service at DCC. In the sermon I focus on the process of taking our head knowledge and turning into real experience and understanding. I also talk a bit about the vision God has for our church and my role in that. As always, I love comments.
Peace-

Good morning! I don’t think there is any issue more critical for the church than the issue of the “great divorce” between hearing God’s word (head knowledge) and obeying/doing what the word instructs us to do (heart and will). Reference Jesus comments at the very end of the Sermon on the Mount. Dallas Willard says this is THE issue currently facing the church. The reality of this issue is verified by our shallowness and failure to impact our culture in any significant way. Wonder what God has in mind as we face unprecedented challenges and wonderful opportunities in the current crises we are facing nationally and globally. Reminds me of a comment I read in a book recently that narrowed our options to one key choice, personally and institutionally: “Deep change or slow death.” It may be time for deep change. Blessings!

Lee,
No doubt that this great divorce, which seems inherited from 20th Century Christianity, must go by the way side for a 21st Century church to move forward. We have to look beyond our creeds into creedal living. We must move beyond telling the world Jesus loves them and actually demonstrate it to them with our lives.
