Last night Shay, Loren, David and I ventured to Raleigh for the Church Basement Roadshow with Tony Jones, Doug Padgitt, and Mark Scandrette. It was truly a unique experience (except that the Jesus for President show that Shay went to last week was very similar in format) and very entertaining. Here is a video from the show. It was a hybrid show/revival/book tour that you have to experience to really understand. Thankfully, David, Shay and I recorded a podcast this morning so that we could share all of our thoughts about it with you.
So go to my podcast and check out our review. If you have seen it, we would love to have your thoughts as well.

Wasn’t there and believe I am glad I was not, but listening to you guys I am drawn to Galatians 6.

Oh, I don’t know there were parts of it you would have really enjoyed. When you get a chance you should really read Doug Padgitt’s A Christianity Worth Believing, I think you two are kindred spirits.

I want to be sure that anyone listening to the podcast doesn’t take our criticism to be negative or demeaning of what they did. I have great respect for what they did.
It will take me more than 10 hours (most of which I was asleep) to process the show fully and it was difficult to reflect on the production at 7:30 am the morning after in a podcast. So here’s a little more of my more positive thoughts on the evening:
I was very entertained, inspired and even lifted up spiritually some from the experience. It was outside the box and I like that. I think that at the very least, we should take this experience to be a call to add creativity and fun into our regular worship services and push the boundaries of what it means to proclaim God’s Word. It was obvious that these men have a clear understanding of the gospel but also have a clear understanding of the culture and the world in which we live in the 21st century.

Shay I would agree with your positives. At the very least it was the best book tour I have encountered. It was a book tour that managed to challenge and inspire my faith. That is rare. Unfortunately, trying to bring worship into a book tour through a revival lead by fictional characters with tongue in cheek humor and commercials between acts just removes many necessary components for actual worship.
