Ramblings

Excited for this Monday! Today four of us fellas are flying to the motherland – Maryland that is – and going downtown DC to check the Washington Nationals swanky new ballpark. Should be the best guys night ever and none too soon. I need to get away, if even for a day. So here are some happy super guy’s night Monday ramblings.

It is hot, real hot. It is only June, it shouldn’t be 100 degrees already. If it stays this hot I may end up watching Gore’s award winning powerpoint slide show! Seriously though, it does seem to be a different climate in this part of the country than when I grew up. It is noticeably warmer. It may just be part of some 1000 cycle or it may be some sort of El Nino phenomenon (El Nino which in Spanish means the Nino), but it is hot. I am sure Jack Van Impe could explain to us how this is predicted somewhere in the book of Daniel, but I am already tired of sweating.

Found some time with my family out of town to catch the New Indiana Jones movie and I have very mixed feelings about it. It just seemed like they were trying too hard. There were too many inside jokes, too many instances where Indiana does the same jump into a moving vehicle and knock everyone out and taking control, and a premise that was easily diagnosed from the beginning and silly. In the positive it was fun, had some great adventure, and made George Lucas more money. (He is probably hurting and I don’t want his family to go hungry)

We are preaching through the book of Genesis this summer at church. I love preaching through Genesis. I love preaching it because we think we know Genesis, but we seldom really know the stories. This Sunday I preached as Abraham, reminiscing about God’s call and the difficulty of the journey. We celebrate Abraham as a model of faith. And certainly he demonstrated tremendous faith, at times, but he also struggled with following God’s call. Abraham made some really terrible choices. I find comfort in that. Even the father of our faith struggled along the way. He grew impatient and tried to bring about God’s will through his own effort instead of just waiting on God. We need to hear these stories because they are our stories.

If I was going to be an NBA head coach I would want to be the Christian Phil Jackson.

If I was going to be a Winter Olympic sport I would be curling.

If I was going to be a Summer Olympic sport I would the steeple chase.

If I was going to be a reggae rapping Hasidic Jew, well that is to easy

If I was going to be a a knee injury I would be a torn meniscus.

If I was going to be a presidential candidate I would have Obama’s charisma, McCain’s bankroll, Ron Paul’s google focused advertising and Monica Lewinsky’s ex-boyfriends wife’s delusional beliefs. Who wouldn’t vote for that.
