June is here and I am already tired. Between swim lessons, two weddings this weekend, driving what felt like a thousand miles last week, a 15 hour day at church, and a sermon, I am a little less than optimum. But, life goes on and I am not one to whine. So here are some thoughts to start your week.
Lakers and Celtics in the Finals! Is it 1984? Absolutely incredible, an outcome that would have been unbelievable at this time last year. It is amazing that this is how the most incredible NBA season I can remember has played out. There is definitely a part of me that is rooting for the Celtics because of KG and Paul Pierce, but I think the Lakers will win in 6. The Celtics have no absolutely dominant crunch time player like Kobe. How could they? Since MJ have we seen a crunch time scorer like Kobe? This will cement Kobe as a probably the #2 or #3 two guard of all time behind MJ. Can’t wait for all the Boston stars to start showing up the finals to try and fight off the power of Jack Nicholson, Tobey Maguire and Cameron Diaz. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Steven Tyler and Tom Brady the war cry has gone out. The Celtics need you courtside!
I preached in shorts at my church for the first time last night. Because of our four different worship services each week, I get to dress up, wear a robe, and preach in jeans almost every week. I like the variety. But, even at our 5:30 service which is dress casual, I had never preached in shorts. We had a church picnic yesterday afternoon, however, and I just didn’t feel like changing, so button up shirt, shorts, and crocs were the uniform. I surprisingly liked it. Maybe it is the arrival of summer, but last night had a relaxed and warm feeling that was perfect. I just hope the sight of my bare legs wasn’t a stumbling block to any of the ladies! Of course that could increase our attendance numbers. Does the end justify the means? I don’t know. All I know is that when our Worship Minister got engaged the number of eligible young women attending our church plummeted.
Have you gotten your stimulus on yet? We are still waiting for our stimulus check (thanks by the way W, I am going to miss your handouts), but now the debate is what to do with it. I am sure that many of you are doing exactly what the government doesn’t want you to do, paying off debt. That is probably what we should do, but this year is our 10th anniversary so I think it will be spent on a celebratory trip. And you know what, I think that is the best idea we have had. There are so few opportunities to get away with my wife and have adventures. What are you doing with yours? I would love to hear about any great stimulus ideas you have come up with.
I am a little surprised I haven’t heard a bunch of churches coming up with a Presidential Stimulus Offering where they campaign their people to donate that money to the church. This just seems like a churchy thing to do.
When the seasons shift, so to does the soundtrack of my life. With warmer weather here in NC I have been shifting to catchy, feel good rock and alternative. It feels summery to me. The spring was all about low key folk and singer songwriter stuff. I am ready to rock.
With the end of new shows on TV, I have added a netflix account for the summer. We are watching the early seasons of House and Bones. I need some good series recommendations for the summer. I need something new to watch. What are you addicted to?
I also need some good fiction writers for my summer fiction binge. I have been on my normal spring non-fiction binge, but it is about over. I have read everything by my favorite authors and need some suggestions. Help a brother out.
Hope you are well rested, I am going to find out what work I am supposed to do this week….

I hate that I missed the Sermon of the Shorts…really…I do.
As far as TV shows go…The Wire is the thing! We’re still in the first season and it is well put together. I think you would enjoy it.
Maybe our worship director should perform in Chippendales gear and we could have Ladies Night! “hey you on the bike…you in the water…it’s ladies night at the Palace with the Blues Brothers Rhythm and blues review”

I have heard great things about the Wire, I will add it to the list.
I am definitely not picturing Loren in Chippendales gear, ever!
